November 2010

I just returned from Haiti with a small team of pastors and leaders. We hadn't planned it this way, but we were able to be there during Hurricane Tomas. We spent a lot of time in prayer for our children, and for the rest of Haiti, that the storm would not do much damage. According to the original projections from the storm, Aquin was set to be in the direct path of the eye of Tomas but thankfully it passed well west of Aquin. It started raining on Wednesday night and rained on and off through the night, all day Thursday and Thursday night, and throughout the day Friday. There was a lot of flooding near the children's home and elsewhere, but thankfully, we suffered no real damage. We saw first hand the power of prayer and how the damage was very minimal throughout Haiti, compared with what the projections were. Praise the Lord! Please watch some of the videos I took on my recent trip.

Missions Trip Update

Man, what a great trip we had over the past week in Haiti. Sorry for not posting any updates while we were there, but I tried several times and the internet service failed! Welcome to a foreign country! Thank you all so much for your prayers while we were gone. We definitely felt God's protection.

I have taken a lot of missions teams to Haiti, and I will say that this was one of the best teams yet. And no, I don't say that after every group. We had a team of 18 people, of which 10 were from Central Baptist in Deer Park, Texas, and the other 8 were from various churches in the Charlotte, NC area. Everyone in the group had great attitudes and was very open to the different types of ministry we did while there. It was awesome to see God work in the lives of everyone in the group.

We flew to Haiti on Monday and spent the night in Port au Prince. On Tuesday, we got up and drove the 4 hour trip to Aquin. The group went to the children's home to see the kids, while I went out and bought paint and food for the Friday ministry day. On Wednesday, part of the group painted the upstairs of the house, while the rest of the group sorted the food and toys for Friday. Thursday, part of the group went to the mountain village of Leje for a service, and part of the group went to the island village of Kay Romier for a service. When we met back up in Aquin, we went down to the local soccer field and schooled by some Haitian kids. Friday, we went back to the villages, switching group locations and passed out food bags to all the families represented in the villages. We also sat around and had a time of fellowship with all the people. Friday night brought more soccer and getting our tails kicked again! Saturday was a much needed day of relaxation and fun at the beach with our kids, followed by a great church service that night. On Sunday, we headed back to Port au Prince, and flew home Monday. A special thanks goes out to the everyone in the group for making it awesome!

All the kids are doing great and we are seeing some of them step up into leadership positions. I am so proud of all of them, especially Fabienne and Fito as they set Godly examples for the younger kids. The second level is almost finished. Since we finished the painting, we can now proceed with finishing the floors and windows. We are also still working on getting our well drilling machine modified and sent to Haiti in the next few months. We are really excited about this area of ministry as well. Check out www.project127-haiti.com to see how you can be involved!

God bless you all,
Steve Horne

Haiti Summer Update

I hope this message finds all of you well. We have been very busy here at Project 127 Haiti. With groups coming to Haiti and planning for the fall, this is one of our busiest times of the year. We are very excited about what the Lord is doing through us and with our ministry in Haiti.

We had a missions team from NC and GA with us in Haiti last week. In spite of all the rain from the tropical storm, we were able to get a lot accomplished while the group was there. We spent three days painting, scraping, and more painting at the children's home and making it beautiful. It was great to see all of our Haitian kids pitch in and help us paint as well. It was also a huge blessing to us and them to be able to spend some time with them. We also traveled by boat to the island of Gros Cayes, just off the coast of Aquin. While there we held a big evangelistic service with puppets, testimonies, songs, and a great message from Pastor Keith Beatty. We were also able to pass out some much appreciated items to the people in the little village there. We are also preparing for a team from NC and TX that will be coming down to Haiti on July 26th. We are really excited about this trip as well.

Our well drilling machine is almost completed and should be delivered to us in NC by next weekend. When we get it in NC, we will drill a few test wells and familiarize ourselves with it before we ship it to Haiti. We are working on several different avenues that will allow us to get it to Haiti in the next few months. We are really excited to see how God will use the gift of clean water to further His Kingdom in Haiti. Please continue to be in prayer with us about this. We will also be traveling to a Water Summit Meeting on July 12th in Hickory, NC. There will be many different people from well drillers, to water purification companies represented at this meeting. We are excited about the possibilities and the people we will meet there.

We just added some more pictures of our trip to our facebook account. If you are on facebook, join the group Project 127 Haiti and check out all of the pictures.

Thank you so much for all your prayers and concerns about the people of Haiti.

God bless you,
Steve Horne

What's Happening

Bonjou tout moun! That's "Good morning everyone" in Creole. I hope this post finds you all well. Things are going great here at Project 127 Haiti. This is a busy time of year for us. We have a lot going on and we could sure use your prayers.

First, an update on the last trip to Haiti. Jim Rice recently spent a week in Haiti working on some projects around the children's home. The main purpose of his trip was to try and get our well functional again, since it was damaged in the earthquake. We had hoped we could maybe repair it and not have to dig a new well. But, as things usually go in Haiti, that wasn't the case so it's on to plan B. Plan B is to dig a new well. He was able to repair a damaged foot valve on the pump, which gave us some water flow, but not nearly enough to provide for all our needs.

This leads us to an exciting opportunity that God has brought our way. We have located a ministry in Texas that builds well drilling machines. It turns out that we can purchase a drilling machine for what it would cost us to drill a new one in Haiti. It is being built now and we are going to be able to buy it at a very discounted rate because we will be using it for ministry. This opens up a whole new area of ministry in Haiti for us, as we can hopefully start drilling wells around Haiti for those who don't have clean water. We can use this opportunity to minister to the communities that we are drilling in.

There is obviously some big prayer needs for all of this to happen though. We will still need to ship the drilling machine to Haiti when it is completed. We will also need to purchase a truck to pull the machine, since it will be mounted on a trailer. We could either buy one in the States and ship it to Haiti, or we could just buy one in Haiti. We are looking at several options right now. Thank you so much to all of you who have already helped us raise money to put towards the well.

We are gearing up for two big mission teams that will be coming to Haiti this summer. The first group consists of about 12 people from Georgia and NC and will be coming June 21-28. The second group consists of about 20 people from Texas and NC and will be coming July 26-Aug. 2. We are very excited about many new team members who will be taking there first mission trip to Haiti. These will be primarily ministry outreach teams that will be sharing the Gospel in some of the most remote parts of Haiti.

Again, thank you all so much for your prayers and help in God's work in Haiti. We couldn't do it without you. It is an honor to consider each of you partners of Project 127 Haiti!

God bless you,
Steve Horne

Teams Leave for Haiti

Please be in prayer for some of our team who will be leaving this week for short term mission trips to Haiti. Today, we will have a team of four, lead by Farrell Burton, leaving for Haiti. They will be visiting and encouraging our kids and adults at our children's home. They will also be taking tents and temporary housing to a ministry in the Citi Soleil areas of Haiti.

On Thursday, May 29th, one of our men will be going to Haiti for a week to try and repair our well that was damaged by the earthquake. Jim Rice will be trying to get our well functional again, as well as installing a water purification system. He will also be doing some electrical work on our second level. Please pray that the well can be repaired, as our people are in desperate need of more water.

Please keep these two teams in your prayers. Pray for their safety, and for God to bless their work, and ultimately that they will have an impact for Jesus Christ.

God bless you,
Steve Horne

April 2010 Update

Hello again everyone. First of all, let me say thank you again for your continued prayers and support of Project 127 Haiti. God has truly used each and every one of you to be a huge blessing to our ministry in the past few months. We have some exciting things happening in the coming summer months!

Just over the past two weeks, we were able to take 2 different groups on short term mission trips to Haiti. The first group was a leadership team from Conyers, GA. We did some planning and scouting for a group from their church that will be going back to Haiti in June. We were able to travel by boat to the island of Gros Caye which lies just off of the coast of Aquin. It was our second trip to this remote island that is cut off from the rest of Haiti. We met with the leaders of two different communities on the island to plan our outreaches there in June. They are very excited about our group coming back to minister to them. We also gave them a New Testament radio that is solar and hand crank powered so they can listen to the Word of God in their own Creole language. This is a great gift for them because many of them cannot read and don't have access to Bibles. We can't wait to get a report in June on how the listening groups are doing. We also purchased some supplies for the group from King's Way Baptist Church that was coming in the following week.

The King's Way group worked on some much needed projects at the children's home throughout their week in Haiti. They built bunk beds, tiled the kitchen, painted, built shelves, and worked on several other projects around the house. They also delivered lots of new clothes and supplies to all of our kids and leaders in Haiti. These have been very hard to find since the January earthquake. The group also held services each night at the Youth Shack Church that meets at the children's home, and saw around 150 attend each night. Praise the Lord!

Things in Haiti are still very bad from the earthquake. As we flew into Port au Prince, we could see all of the tent cities that have sprung up all over the country. These people are still struggling to get back to as normal a life as possible, but for most Haitians, their lives will never be the same. Please continue to pray for the people who have been affected by the earthquake. Praise the Lord that all of our people and our home was spared any major damage.

Over the next few weeks and months, we will be installing a new well and water treatment system at our children's home. We will also be taking several short term mission groups. Please continue to pray for the Lord's work in Haiti.

I have also posted some pictures of our new kids who recently moved in. If you would be interested in sponsoring one of these children, email me at steve@project127.org and I can give you all the necessary information.

Thank you and God bless,
Steve Horne

First of all, I want to say thank you so much for your outpouring of support and
donations after the recent earthquake. We cannot even begin to tell you all how much of a blessing you have been to us in the past two weeks. I believe God is going to do some amazing things as a result of the earthquake. The Haitian people have a spirit that is the strongest I have seen anywhere and they will rebound. It will take lots of time and assistance, but together we can all help them rebuild. So many of you have donated money, food items, school supplies, and other items and we can promise you they will go to great use in Haiti in the months to come. Haiti not only needs our help now, but will need it in the months and years to come, so we pray that we can all team up together to help them. You can continue to make donations through www.project127-haiti.com[1] or mailed to PO Box 321 Harrisburg, NC 28075. We are in need of some more people to join us in support on a monthly basis so we can continue our work in Haiti long after the memory of the earthquake passes. If you would like to partner with us in this, email steve@project127.org[2] for more information and we would be glad to help you.

Myself and a team of two others left for Haiti the day after the earthquake and were able to fly into Santo Domingo, DR and then drive into Haiti. We passed through Port au Prince and were able to track down several of our friends there and make sure they were doing ok. We were able to leave some money and supplies with Jules, our mission manager in Haiti, to help him get back on his feet. He and his entire neighborhood were left homeless. I don't even have the words to describe the destruction in the capital city of Haiti. We then left and drove several hours southwest to our childrens home and were able to meet with our kids and inspect the house. We are very happy to report that the damage there is very minimal and the kids are all doing well. We were also able to leave supplies and money to provide for them for the next two months.

We will be sending one of our men from NC into Haiti tomorrow with medical supplies
that he will deliver to hospitals in the Port au Prince area. Please be in prayer for Farrell Burton over the next week.

Also, two of our boys who have been with us from the beginning were able to fly to
Florida last night to meet up with their adoptive family from Texas. They had started the adoption over two years ago and because of the earthquake, were able to speed the process up. Praise the Lord!

Many of you are asking, where do we go from here? Well, our mission continues to be investing in the lives of the children in our orphanage and raising them up to be leaders in their community. They are the one's who are going to make a difference in their country! As a result of the earthquake, there are even more orphans that need loving care. Our immediate need is to finish the second story on our orphanage so we can house 10 more kids. As soon as this addition is finished we will be able to move these kids in. We will also need to bring in additional support staff at the orphanage to help with these new kids.

If you would like us to come and share about our work in Haiti, please email
steve@project127.org[3]. We are filling up our schedule with speaking engagements and would love to come and share and say thank you.

God bless you all,

Steve Horne

Haiti Update

Hello everyone. I will be posting a detailed update in the next day or so after I sort through everything since I have returned from Haiti. Please read the following message from Pastor Frank Penley who traveled with our team to Haiti over the past week.....

It seems like a month has passed in the last week. I am thankful to tell
you that Our orphans and the orphanage is fine, and other than a few cracks
and scared hearts all is OK. God allowed us to drive through Port-A-Prince
and the 4 hours past it to give our kids two months supplies. I was not
prepared for the 5 hours we spent in Port-a-Prince looking for our families.
I for the 1st time in my life was able to understand some of the things said
in Revelations from the eyes of one living and walking in the death and
destruction. Haiti needs 100 times more help than they are getting and I
fear more will die in the next 6 weeks than have died in the earthquake. We
need to keep praying and all of us need to help as much as we will. We drove
through the devastation for over two hours and my only thoughts was that
everyone is dead. Project127-Haiti.com has decided to double our efforts and
help by increasing our orphanage 10 more kids. We are needing help to help
in Haiti and will in the next few days be coming up with a way for everyone
who wants to help to have a part. We are thankful for everyone's prayers and
please pray for the people in Haiti who have suffered loss of family members
to many who had only one or two from a single family survive. I pray that
the Christians will show Christ to these desperately lost and needy people.

Haiti Update

Hello everyone. Let me thank you for your prayers for our team over the last week. Also thank you for your prayers for our kids and the Haitian people. We returned from Port au Prince to Santo Domingo last night and will be returning to the States on Thursday. We have a lot of people asking how they can help right now. Not only will the Haitian people need help immediately, but they will also need lots of help in the months to come.

We have a lot of information to process and are working by the minute to get everything lined up. At this point, money is still the best way to help. We are working with a lot of people to get supplies and necessities as well. We will be keeping everything up to date and letting everyone know as soon as possible about the next step.

God bless you for your efforts and to help Haiti!

Haiti Kids Are Safe!!!

Hey guys. Quick update. We were just able to speak with our kids. They are all fine and
so is our orphanage. They also have food and water to get them through the next little
bit. Praise the Lord! We can all breathe easier now. Thanks for the prayers. We still
plan on going in soon.

Haiti Team Update

We are still in the Dominican
Republic and will be in the capital for the next day or so. We will be then going to the
border of Haiti and exploring our options from there. We are trying to secure a satellite
phone, transportation in Haiti, water, and supplies here in DR. We won't know about many
of these things until we arrive at the border. From the border, we will have 10-12 hours
of traveling if the roads are passable. We still don't even know about the possibility of
even entering Haiti. We are going to try our best to get in, but don't want to do
anything too risky.

We appreciate your prayers for protection and safety. We will try our best to keep
everyone updated. God bless you all and keep praying!

In Christ,

the Dominican Republic, then trying to drive into Haiti on Friday.

Please keep praying!

We will try and keep everyone updated.

Haiti Update

Hello again everyone. It has been a very restless night for all of us involved in Haiti.

Just in the last 5 minutes, we were finally able to talk with our people on the ground in Haiti. We spoke with our main guy Jules. He lives on the outskirts of Port au Prince, where the very epicenter of the quake hit. He and his family are all ok. The second story of his house has completely crumbled down, though the first story is fairly intact, but probaly unstable. He said all of the buildings and houses on his street have completely crumbled and there is complete devastation around the capital city.

Our kids and Marie are all fine at the orphanage, but with communication being very spotty, we are not quite sure of the structural damamage to the orphanage. I want to correct myself from the previous email. Our orphanage is about 70 miles from the capital, not 90-100 like I estimated yesterday.

Myself and a team of 3 others plan to leave for Haiti as soon as we can find a way down there. We are going to spend the next little bit researching our options, but at this point it looks like we may have to fly into the Dominican Republic and drive over. We will be going to check on our people and to assist in the relief efforts.

Many of you are asking how you can help. Prayer is the most important, but monetary assistance is needed too. It will be very difficult to take supplies in at this point so money donations to buy fresh water and food (which will probably be sky high) is greatly needed. We also will not be taking normal routes into Haiti, so our costs to travel will probably be significantly higher. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and tax deductible. Please consider giving to help the Haitian people. You can be sure the money will go directly to help them.

If you would like to donate, please call me ASAP at 704-634-2417 or email me. Checks can be made to Project 127 with the denote Haiti hurricane on them. Cash will also be accepted. Notice is very short, so we would like to collect these donations today, as we may be traveling as early as tomorrow. However, you can also mail in your donations to Project 127, PO Box 321, Harrisburg, NC 28075.

Thank you and God bless,

Steve Horne

January 2010

Hello again everyone. It is a great time in the Lord as we start off this new year. As you can tell from my previous post, God has blessed our ministry in Haiti greatly over the past year. Now, we are excited to see what God will accomplish through us in 2010. The new year is always an exciting time for me, because it is like a fresh start. It's also a time for us to regroup and refocus on what God has called us to in Haiti. I love to get out and share what God has allowed us to be a part of in Haiti. Whether it be in churches that I have visited previously, a new church, or just with people I meet, it's a blessing for me to share what God is doing in Haiti. 2010 holds a lot of exciting things for Project 127 Haiti.

Mission Trips are a way for us to connect people from the States to people in Haiti. We have a Medical Team from Brooklyn, NY that will be with us Feb. 15th-21st. We will be taking a family missions trip April 5th-11th. We also will be taking 3 groups in during the summer. If you would like to go on a trip with us or a group from your church would like to go, email me for more information. We would love to take you.

We are also trying to finish up the second level and bakery. We are working on coming up with a plan for solar equipment that could help power this. I will be going to Haiti with a few other guys the week of April 12th to work on this.

We are also planning to build a permanent Youth Shack church for our kids that won't get torn down every time there is a wind storm.

Our biggest need as always is monthly sponsorship of our orphanage. It costs about $2,000 per month to operate our orphanage and we are underfunded almost every month for this. If you would like contribute on a monthly basis for $25 a month or perhaps more, we would love to partner with you.

Thanks for all your prayers and support. We greatly appreciate everything you all do for the cause of Christ in Haiti. If you would like for me to come to your church to speak about our ministry in Haiti, just send me an email. I would be honored.

God bless you all,
Steve Horne
