November Update

Hello again everyone. Thank you all so much for your continued support of Project 127Haiti. Our orphanage continues to thrive, providing hope in a dark world. We couldn't do this without your continued prayers and support. Be sure to keep checking our website at www.project127-haiti.com for exciting information about what God is doing in Aquin, Haiti. We will soon be posting dates for our 2009 Mission Trips to Haiti. If anyone is interested in bringing a group for an awesome week of ministry and outreach, send me an email at steve@project127.org.

We just sent our small shipment of flip flops and school supplies to the orphanage. We plan on a large scale shipment of flip flops that will serve as an outreach to the community of Aquin. This will be a great way to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Check out these pictures of some of the flip flops that were donated to Project 127 Haiti. Thanks again for all you do!

Oct. Update - Fito Returns to Haiti

Hello again everyone! We want to thank you all for your prayers and support for our
ministry in Haiti. Everyone who has ever gave, prayed, or told someone else about us has played a very valuable role in reaching the lost in Haiti.

Our kids have recently started back to school and are getting settled in to another year. They are continuing to reach out to their community around them and inviting them to church. We cannot say enough about how our kids are being leaders for Jesus Christ.

Also, with the leading of Andrew Burton (a teenager who went to Haiti with us over the summer), First Assembly Christian School and Hickory Grove Christian School raised over 4,250 pairs of flip flops for Haiti. We will be sending the first shipment of them down in November. Andrew represents a changed life as a result of going on a missions trip to Haiti. That's what our trips are all about!

As most of you know, one of our boys from Haiti has been here in the States with us for the last three months. Fito has been speaking in churches and schools to raise awareness for Project 127 Haiti. This weekend is his last one before we go back to Haiti on Monday the 20th. He will be speaking and singing during the Saturday night service at King's Way Baptist Church at 6:30pm. You won't want to miss hearing his story of how God has changed his life! Email me if you need directions.

Once again, thank you so much for all you do for Jesus Christ! You will never know how much of an impact you are having in the country of Haiti. If you know anyone else who might like to know about Project 127 Haiti, please pass this email on to them.

Hurricane Hanna Update

Praise the Lord that our kids are safe after another hurricane. Once again, God protected them! They received some rain and wind from Hanna, but were spared from anything bad. Most of the flooding that you see on the news was farther north in another region of Haiti. These people definitely need our prayers as what little they had, has now been destroyed. Keep up the prayers. God is listening!

God bless you,
Steve Horne

Hurricane Gustav Update

Praise the Lord! I am happy to report that the kids are all doing well, and that they didn't see any major damage from the hurricane. They did have a lot of rain and some strong wind, but God protected them. Thanks for all your fervent prayers for their safety. There was some slight damage to the "youth shack," but they said it could be easily fixed with a few more sticks and some palm leaves. Keep up the prayers for our wonderful kids!

God bless you all,
Steve Horne

Hurricane Gustav Bearing Down on Haiti

Let's please remember to keep the kids at the orphanage in our prayers especially today and tonight. Hurricane Gustav is expected to hit Haiti sometime this evening. It is not very powerful yet, but any amount of rain and wind could be devastating to this poor country. I spoke with the kids at the orphanage this morning and they said that they are seeing some wind now, but the rain has not started yet. Let's pray that the wind does not damage their "youth shack," and that there isn't much flooding. If you look at the map I attached, Haiti is in the lower right of the picture. Our orphanage is located in Aquin, Haiti, right in the middle of the southwest tip that sticks out. This is right in the projected path of the hurricane. I'll post an update as soon as I have more news.

God bless you,
Steve Horne

July Update

Hello again everyone. I want to say thank you for all of your prayers and support. With everyone's help, we were able to once again meet the budget for the orphanage last month. Sometimes it gets a little crazy, but God always provides. I think He is just teaching us to rely on Him more, and that we cannot do anything without Him.

We just had another missions team come to Haiti last week. It was awesome to see God at work in the community. We trained our kids on puppets and dramas and took their "youth shack" out into the community. We drew a crowd of around 200 on Friday night on a grassy hill in the middle of the community. It was a very difficult crowd to say the least. When we did puppets for the community kids, they tried to rush the stage. It was like working security at a rock concert! In spite of the unruly crowd, Belony preached the Gospel with passion, and after he finished, we gave an ivitation to accept Christ. Several people gave their lives to Christ that night. They will now be welcomed into the youth shack each Wednesday night where they can learn about Jesus.

We are also pleased to announce that one of our older boys from the orphanage, Fito, has returned with us to the States for about three months. He is very gifted in singing and speaking and we will be traveling together to different churches and schools to share the ministry in Haiti. Our schedule is filling up fast, but if you would like to schedule for us to come, please email me at steve@project127.org. We would love to come share with you.

Thanks again for having a part in God's work in Haiti! We couldn't do it without you!

Steve Horne

June Haiti Update

Hello again everyone! I hope this update finds you all well. I am pleased to bring you another update on our ministry in Haiti.

We just hosted two missions groups at our orphanage in Haiti. We had 28 people there from the 11th-18th, and 11 people there from the 18th-25th. We were all able to come together and get lots of work done for our kids, and more importantly for Jesus Christ. We built new bunk beds, new showers, new benches for the youth shack (church), a new closet, and a chicken coup. We also installed a solar pump on our well. I want to say a thank you to everyone involved for helping us to accompish so much in two short weeks.

We also held worship services almost every night. We sang songs, did crafts, sang more songs, and gave the gospel message. We saw many people receive Jesus Christ as their Savior. We showed the Jesus film one Friday night and had almost 600 in attendance. It was such a joy to see their enthusiasm for learning about Jesus.

Our kids at the orphanage are continuing to change their community. They have finished school for the summer and have amped up their Wednesday night services to try and bring more kids in.

Praise the Lord for the work He is accomplishing in Haiti. Without your help and prayers, it would not be possible. We ask that you would pray how God could continue to use you in this ministry. The slow down of the economy has unfortunately hurt our incoming support as well. We still have a large shortfall for the coming month of July (almost $1500 to be exact). If you would like to participate in this, email me at steve@project127.org or mail it to Project 127, PO Box 321 Harrisburg, NC 28075.

God bless you all,

WELL UPDATE

I am happy to give a much asked for update on the well situation at the orphanage. We have been praying for several months to be able to get the well installed, and that we would have clean water. Many of the wells in the area have salty water, which prevent them from being used for drinking water.

God answered all of our prayers last week. The well was dug, finished, and completely installed in just a few short days. Also, the water is not salty and should be drinkable as soon as we install a filter on it! Praise the Lord!

Thank you so much to all of you who invested time, prayers, and money to get this well for the kids. They now have clean water to shower with, cook with, and drink. Now we can also put a much needed garden at the orphanage. Thanks again to you all, and keep praying for Haiti!

God bless you all,
Steve Horne

APRIL UPDATE

Hello again everyone. It's time for another update on the Project 127 ministry in Haiti. I just returned from another visit to our orphanage in Aquin. I am happy to report that the kids are continuing to excel in their new home. They are making a huge impact in their community. Their Wednesday night youth service is seeing steady numbers come each week to hear the Word of God. Our 11 kids have stepped up in a huge way and are completely leading their own service that meets each week in the back yard of the orphanage. Last Friday night we had a special youth service at the house and had over 50 people attend. I spoke to the kids on the importance of living for God without hesitation, using the examples of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. We gave an invitation and saw 25 precious people accept Christ as their Personal Savior! Praise the Lord!

Thank you so much to everyone who continues to invest both their time, prayers, and money. This is definitely a team effort, and we could not continue to do God's work without you all.

We have a lot planned for this summer, with three different groups coming to visit the orphanage. Please pray with us about this. Also, let's continue to pray for the Haitian people and government.

God bless you all,
Steve Horne

MARCH UPDATE

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has had a part in the ministry in Haiti, either financially or through prayer. I cannot tell you enough how vital you have been to the daily work that goes on. It is awesome to see how God has taken people from all over the U.S. and brought us together with one common goal: to glorify Jesus through our kids in Haiti.

The kids are continuing to thrive in their new environment. They are now an influential part of the community of Aquin. This is a miracle considering they have only been here for a little over three months. They are doing great in school, and they absolutely love getting up and going to learn everyday.

The Wednesday night youth service that the kids have started is thriving! They had a burden to reach out to other kids in their commmunity and decided to start their own church service. They are completely leading the whole service and are consistently averaging 40-50 kids every week. It's great to see how the kids have caught the vision of Project 127: to help others in need.

We will be taking three mission groups to the orphanage this summer. The first group is a family/work group, and will be going on June 11th-18th. The second group is a family group and will be going June 18th-25th. The third group is a teen/young adult group and will be going the first week of August. If anyone is interested in going on a trip to Haiti, or perhaps scheduling your church group to go, send me and email.

Again, we are so excited to see how God is changing lives both in Haiti and in the U.S. If you would like to help in any way, send me an email. We would love to come and share an update on our ministry in Haiti with you!

NEW HAITI SHIRTS

We just got some new Haiti t-shirts printed. If anyone wants to purchase one, email me at steve@project127.org. They are $10, plus shipping if you need them shipped. We have various sizes, and also some available in orange. All the proceeds will go towards the orphanage in Haiti.
The pictures aren't great, but they give you an idea. Under Project 127 it says, "Nou gen espwa nan Jezi," which means "We have hope in Jesus."

Baptism Service - Sponsor Cards

Watch this video of the special baptism service we had recently in Haiti. The first man is Jules who has been working with us for awhile now. It is awesome to see his life changing daily. The second man is Tisan. He recently started helping us also, and two of our kids led him to Christ!

Also, please pray for continued support of the ministry in Haiti. We have began distributing our new sponsorship packets. We are praying for 150 new monthly sponsors by the end of February. This will be a great blessing to our ministry, as it will enable our ministry in Haiti to run more efficiently. If you are interested in sponsoring, or if you think you can help us get some packets out there, email me at steve@project127.org.

God Changes Lives

What an awesome trip we just had in Haiti. There were 10 people from King's Way and 3 from Texas that made up our group. The words I use to describe this trip will not even be sufficient, but I'll do the best I can.

We left on Sunday, Jan. 20th and flew to Fort Lauderdale and spent the night. We were at the airport in Fort Laud. at 5:00am to catch our 6:50am flight to Port-au-Prince on Monday morning the 21st.

We arrived in PAP at 9:00am, got some lunch, and started our 3 hour drive to the orphanage in Aquin, Haiti. By the time we got to the orphanage, several of us were already sunburned from riding in the back of the truck. We went and said hello to the kids, gave everyone a quick tour of the orphanage, and headed to the hotel to check in. Monday night we headed back to the orphanage for a time of singing and praising the Lord in both English and Creole. It was a great way to kick off the week. One of the girls in our group wasn't feeling well and stayed behind at the hotel. While setting out on the balcony, she could hear our voices carrying out across the whole town. We were several miles away from her! God was preparing us for a great week.

On Tuesday, we awoke early and headed to the orphanage for a long day of work. We started painting the orphanage, and building a shower house behind the the orphanage. That night, we headed to church with the kids.

On Wednesday, we awoke early again, and headed back to the orphanage for more painting and building. We were able to paint nearly the entire inside of the house (minus the kitchen and hallway) and the entire front including the porch. I will try and post some before and after pictures soon, so everyone can see the dramatic transformation. We also had rock, sand, blocks, and cement delivered and started building the shower house. Many thanks to Rusty and Jessica Baker's church in Forsan, Texas for donating the money for all of the materials and paint. Wednesday night we planned to kick off a new youth service at the orphanage. The boys even built a new "Youth Shack" to hold the service in. We invited many people to come out to the service that night. We were not prepared for the blessing God had in store for all of our group. Over 150 people attended, with another 50 or so watching from outside the fence. The service was led completely by our kids. Mika, Fabienne, Jean Claude, and Fito led the music, and Belony preached. He preached with maturity way beyond his 13 years, and with a passion that I have rarely seen in my entire life. At the end of the service, 7 people personally came up to us and received Jesus as their Savior, with many more praying the prayer during the invitation.

On Thursday, we had a baptism service at the beach. Our main guy there in Haiti, Jules, was baptized in the ocean. We had a special time of testimonies, as Jules told of how much his life has changed since he started working with us. His wife was able to come down from Port-au-Prince to be a part of this special time. We also baptized a young man named TiSan (he's 20 years old)who has been helping us for the last two months. He started out working for us and carrying water to the house. As Belony began witnessing to him, he trusted in Jesus as his Savior. That night was our last night with the kids. We had a special service at the orphanage with the kids and our group. We sang songs in Creole and English and gave testimonies of how the week had changed us. Belony gave a passionate testimony of praise to God, and Lili did as well. What a change God has made in their lives! We all wept with pride in our kids as they one by one spoke with the wisdom and confidence of a seasoned Christian.

Friday morning we headed back to Port-au-Prince. Another 3 hour ride that was made a little longer because of a flat tire. That night at the hotel, we got together again and reflected on the trip. We all went to Haiti with the idea of helping the kids and influencing them, but we all agreed we were the ones who had been influenced and changed.

On Saturday, we flew back home with our hearts full of the lessons that God had taught us during the week. A new fire and passion burns in all of us who went, to continue to make a difference in the lives of our kids in Haiti, and in the lives of our friends and neighbors at home.

It is an honor for me to have a part in the work that God is doing in Haiti. We could do nothing without Him. All praise is due to Him for the change in the lives of our kids. It is my prayer that as long as I live, God will allow me to help "build eternity, one child at a time."

January Update
This new year finds us with a lot of excitement about Haiti. The kids have now moved into their new home and are doing great. They love the area and are having a blast playing soccer with the neighborhood kids. They have also had the opportunity to share Jesus with some of the kids in the area. They want to start a prayer group at their orphanage in the near future. We are still waiting on the company to come and drill the well. I spoke with them just the other day and there have been several setbacks. There has been a lot of rain in the area in the past few months and they have to let the road dry out, then bring in a backhoe and fix the road. Also, a driller from the States was coming down to help them catch up and he had to back out at the last minute. Unfortunately, nothing happens fast in Haiti! Let's keep praying for this.
We will be taking our first missions team to the new orphanage at the end of January. We will be doing several work projects and some outreach in the community. If anyone is interested in going in the future, or taking a team in, email me and let me know.
The kids will also be starting school very soon. They will be getting a great quality education at a Christian school. It will cost around $100 per child for their school. This includes registration, tuition (Jan.-May), uniforms, books, and sports. If anyone would like to help a child go to school, please email me and let me know. We are praying for help in this area. We will also be launching a new sponsorship program in the next month, so stay tuned!
